IM+ 5.1 from Shape Services is officially out, Blackberry users worldwide rejoice
November 3rd, 2007 by Jorge Ledesma
Well folks, the release of this great application with a multitude of
options is finally here. For all of you that are not familiar with IM+;
IM+ stands for “instant messaging” and “+” because it supports all of the
major instant messing clients such as MSN/Live Messenger, Jabber, AOL,
Yahoo, and Google Talk, and for the icing on the cake My Space support
(the only 3rd party software to actually support My Space and I know
what the JiveTalkers are saying, “we have it too” but on paper because I’ve
never seen in version 1.0.2) anyway enough of that. After being
actively engage in the beta pre-release I can attest to this version’s
reliability and stability on the blackberry OS. Sharing files has never been
so easy, I was having a chat with a friend of mine from Zürich and I
quickly sent him a file from my pictures and he received it with no
problem in an instant, is that cool or what ! I tried in JiveTalk and I kept
getting a weird ‘503 error, something something’ (by the way I am a
registered user in both applications and these are strictly my views as an
advance blackberry user).
IM+ has a great pop view while you’re not in the program with totally
customizable sounds plus 5 of their own sounds, love the rooster one.
Now for the major selling point, while your idle, the battery drainage is
“minimal” almost non existent I could not believe it, I’ve logged in
at 8am and lasted until 7pm, had a few chats, talked on the phone,
surfed the net, responded to my app Facebook for Blackberry through out
this time frame and I still have 65 percent of my battery, what a phone
ah, it is in this aspect of phone usage that a phone either shines like a
star or falls into an abyss and this is the perpetual debate between
blackberry users and other smart phone users i.e. Pocket PC, Palm, etc.
The blackberry platform simply out performs any other smart phone, RIM got
it right and stuck to their guns and has churned out blackberry after
blackberry with superb power management, i.e. BB 7290, BB 8700, and now
another jewel the BB 8800. Shape Services, the developers of IM+, IM+
Skype(which I also own, another jewel but that’s another review forthcoming)
VR+, the premier Voice recording application on the blackberry,, and
others at www.shapeservices.com is simply a great company and industry
leader, their customer support is A1A, on par with the best of them. It
is for all the aforementioned reasons that I enthusiastically support
IM+ as the instant messaging client of choice for the blackberry, giving
it 5/5 Berries(its my own scale) it simply has great mix of features
with a superb power management system and in my opinion the two
characteristics are the sale point of this application, it can be downloaded at
www.shapeservices.com to the desktop or the quicker way, directly to your
Blackberry at wap.shapeservices.com
See you next time and keep your RSS feed active to the IM+ Skype review
have a great weekend.
Best regards,
Jorge Ledesma
