Next Action ! Falcon Released . . .
August 19th, 2007 by Jorge Ledesma
Well, its official folks, the next release of Next-Action 2.0 codename Falcon is on my 8700c and what a delight, look for it tomorrow !!!
I have been experimenting with NextAction 2.0 for Blackberry and I am quite impressed so far. However, I do have a suggestion or two as well as a bug report. I have passed all this info on to the developer via email today.
First, the bug: When you delete a Project that still has tasks with that label, the tasks remain but when you try to Open one of them, the NextAction program quits unexpectedly. The only way to fix this was for me to re-create the Project with the exact same name as it had before. Here are the steps I took to cause the error:
1. Created a project called “Expenses”
2. Added several tasks to the project, including “print receipts” and “fax report to manager”
3. Deleted the project from the Projects screen (i.e., deleted p:Expenses)
4. Tried to open the task marked “print receipts” from the All Contexts menu
5. NextAction quit unexpectedly
And to resolve it:
1. Re-created the “Expenses” project
2. Now, when trying to open the “print receipts” item, everything opened fine
As for a couple of enhancements and suggestions:
* Enhancement suggestion: Allow users to be able to move items up or down in the lists of tasks. Currently they are sorted by alphabetical order. I would like the capability to sort by (a) date added, (b) alphabetical order, (c) manual sort order – allow users to be able to move tasks “up” or “down” in the list so they show up earlier in the lists of tasks.
* Allow multiple-action selection by holding down the Shift key or the Option key. Right now, you can only select one next action at a time. It would be nice to be able to select more than one, and then assign all the selected items to a specific context.
* Move the “Note” field in the “edit next action” screen to the bottom of the list of fields (Right now, it goes in order: Next Action, Note, Context, and Project). I use the notes field extensively, but it should be the last field you get to when editing. Currently, in order to simply move an item from one context to another you have to scroll through the entire Notes field in order to get to it. If it were in the order I suggested, it would look like this:
Next Action: Call post office for shipping info
Context: @Calls
Project: eBay sales
Note: Need to call post office at (248) 555-1212 to verify shipping info for boxes larger than 9×12
Lastly, this is just a “would be nice to have” feature, but it would be great to have an option in the click-menu to allow duplication of an entry, which would duplicate the exact entry and then allow you to make changes to the duplicated item, to save time in next action creation. For example, if this was possible, you could select an action, click “Duplicate” and then just change the field(s) you wished to in the duplicated item.
